On January 18, 2006, Ambassador Richard Jones and the Mayor of Karmiel, Mr. Adi Eldar, celebrated the first anniversary of the opening of the American Corner Karmiel (ACK). The ceremony took place in the presence of a large group of Jewish and Arab local government officials, cultural leaders, academics, and community activists. The ACK continues to serve as a platform to reach out to diverse groups of Israeli society and strengthening ties with the people and culture of the United States. The anniversary coincides with Black History month which will also provide Israelis insight into understanding the historical and contemporary complexities of America's diverse society.
