American Studies Workshop at the American Corner Karmiel and the American Corner Beersheva
On November 7 and November 8, Merchavim (the Institute for the Advancement of Shared Citizenship in Israel), in cooperation with Israel's Ministry of Education introduced Access Microscholarship teachers to the concept and basic principles of shared citizenship education. Mike Prashker (Merchavim's founder and CEO and Instructors Abir Halabi and Talia Birkan lead the intensive three-hour workshops. The teachers were shown how to incorporate American history materials in English into their classes in order to demonstrate to their students shared citizenship values and concepts relevant to their own lives.
Regional English Language Officer (RELO) Rick Rosenberg gave presentations on "Online Tools for Teaching English" to the teachers at the ACKarmiel and ACBeersheva. RELO Rosenberg provided a wealth of information regarding resources, and strongly encouraged the teachers to use the information in their classrooms. These introductory presentations on resource availability left the teachers eager to participate in future follow-up programs.
Resource Specialists Ralph Amelan and Jenny Rosenberg also introduced the teachers to resources available at the American Center in Jerusalem
